Knol Roll

The network for Google Knol Authors to collaborate, learn, and share...

When answering a query from someone who was frustrated not to find his Knols were putting his knowledge into search results, I found that there are only around 1650 Knols currently in Google's search database.

I used this search in Google: http://knol.google.com/k">EDITED to start from the root directory of where knols are.

That link keeps getting corrupted - here is is in plain text - http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://knol.google.com/k

It's not a huge number - I wonder what the criteria are, and what the periodicity for indexing is?

I wonder also!
When I created my first Knol, it was at the time when they had the bug of not being searchable unless you were signed in. That was corrected the first week, and my Knol can be found.

My 2nd Knol was finished on 8-3. I checked it on 8-4 - not indexed. Today it is indexed. I wonder if Googles' indexing may be triggered my their thing of finding out and rating if the Knol is 100% unique or not?

This is something that Google have to address - it's hardly satisfactory for Authors or Google if content can't be reliably added and found.

Content that is 100% copied from other resorces (and is shown to be such on Google Knols) can still be found in general search - try a search for 'digg knol' and you'll find three citations where the similarity is cited at 100%.

Go figure.
